Winter Warmup provides free professional training sessions, and peer support to help participants reach their running or walking goals. The program culminates in a 5K run/walk on March 26th, and there's still time to register.
Today, the Holt/East Lansing combined boys’ water polo team (HOTEL) heads to the Michigan Water Polo Association’s East Region Championship to try to win a spot in the State Championship for the first time in the team’s history.
Just Love Revo LLC, a new East Lansing business located on Michigan Avenue, opened its doors on May 1. According to Morgan Underwood, owner, Just Love is a place of meditation, yoga, stretch, art, massage therapy, dance, animal rescue, worship, creativity, healing, individuality, peace, joy, happiness, and love.
Last Friday kicked off the first day of the annual East Lansing Art Festival, as well as the opening of JoyRide Pedal Tours. The business's two pedal bikes provided Festival-goers with complementary rides over the weekend, but JoyRide assures us that they are here to stay. The company will offer Mid-Michigan its very own party bikes to be used for customizable or pre-planned adventures in the Greater Lansing Area.
The City of East Lansing is seeking volunteers to help with the pop up skating rink to be installed this February in Valley Court Park. The rink is expected to be open for two weeks, from February 11 through February 25, and will be free and open to the public between the hours of 3-9pm as long as the weather allows. As we near the winter solstice, the temperature drops and our activities shift from running, biking and days at the pool to skating, sledding and skiing. So far this year there hasn’t been any snow, but even without it there are places to get your winter sports fix in.
Saturday night was a big win for the Michigan State Spartans, but not all students ended the evening on a positive note. Eight students were arrested in Cedar Village for alcohol-related violations after students flooded the streets and lit couches on fire to celebrate the Big Ten Championship victory.
ELPD’s Lt. Wriggelsworth said thirteen fires took place Saturday night after the game. The fires occurred in predominantly student-rental areas of East Lansing, including Cedar Village as well as North Harrison.
The combined water polo team of East Lansing and Holt High Schools (HOTEL) has qualified for Michigan Water Polo Association’s Regional tournament for the first time ever. Regionals will be held October 30 and October 31 at Saline High School. HOTEL faces Ann Arbor Pioneer, the number-four ranked team in the state, at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. If HOTEL wins the game on Friday, they will qualify for a spot at the MWPA state tournament for the first time in the co-op’s history.
