Art from the 2013 Art For Charlie Show and Auction

The Art for Charlie annual Art Show and Auction on November 13 at the East Lansing Marriott will bring together artists from across the globe and give attendees the opportunity to purchase original drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures. Among nationally known artists contributing work are Gary Kim from Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Mark Mehaffey from Williamston, Michigan.

Michigan State University Holds 13th Annual Day of Percussion Sunday, October 26

MSU will host its annual day of percussion this Sunday October 26, at East Lansing’s MacDonald Middle School. East Lansing High School’s drumline will perform and be critiqued at 4:35 pm. MSU’s Percussion Ensemble will perform at 1:10 pm and the MSU Drumline will perform at 5:00 pm. High school drumlines from Lansing Eastern, Mason, Troy, Olivet, Okemos, Port Huron, Farmington, Utica, Waterford Kettering and Harrison will also perform. Section clinics for snare, tenor, bass and cymbals will be offered for the students around noon. Admission is $5 for all adults at the door.

Dead Poets Society

On Tuesday, October 28, a Dead Poets Contest will take place starting at 7:30 pm at Dublin Square Irish Pub and Restaurant, 327 Abbot Road in East Lansing. Contestants are invited to read one or two poems by a departed poet, reading for a maximum of 4-5 minutes, and to dress “in the spirit” of that poet (generously interpreted—anything from a hat/scarf to full costume).

QCROSS: Campus Organization and Documentary Focus on Intersection of Sexuality And Faith

In 2010 our nation was plagued with a rash of teen suicides in the LGBTQ community. At the time, Krista Rowe was a student on the MSU campus who saw the need to build a faith community among her LGBTQ friends on campus. Rev. Jenn Tafel volunteered to offer clergy support, and Queer Christians Reclaiming Our Sexuality and Spirituality (“QCROSS”) was born at MSU that fall as a response to the tragedy.

East Lansing Quidditch Season Underway

The much-anticipated Quidditch preseason is now underway with regular after-school intra-squad scrimmages taking place at Patriarche Park. Players from East Lansing High School meet after school to break into two teams, pitting the Goslings against the Narwhals. Ordinarily, practice occurs on Friday afternoons, but because so many of the players belong to the marching band and this Friday was the MSU Homecoming game, practice this week took place on Thursday.

MSU Teddy Bear Picnic Saturday with MSU College of Human Medicine

On Saturday September 13 MSU’s College of Human Medicine will sponsor a Teddy Bear Picnic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in MSU’s 4-H Children’s Garden on Bogue Street just south of Wilson Road. Admission to the event is free for everyone, and free parking will be available in both the parking lot across from the MSU Clinical Center and in the Wharton Center parking structure.
