Swales Effectively Withdraws from Campaign for Board of Ed
East Lansing Board of Education candidate Todd Swales announced today that he is no longer running for a position on the Board.
In an email to East Lansing Info, Swales wrote:
“I was planning to withdraw my candidacy to continue focusing on Pinecrest and building my businesses, however I can no longer officially withdraw. I will not be actively campaigning for this position.”
Swales currently serves as President of the Pinecrest Elementary Parent Council and is a real estate agent for Berkshire Hathaway.
This leaves six candidates running for four open seats on the Nov. 6 ballot. Board President Kate Powers is running for re-election. Trustee Terah Chambers is running for her first full term; she was selected by the Board to complete the term of Trustee Yasmina Bouraoui. Kath Edsall had formerly served on the Board but was not re-elected in 2016.
Also on the ballot are Chris Martin, Thasin Sardar and Noel Garcia. Trustees Karen Hoene and Nell Kuhnmuench are at the end of their terms and are not running for re-election.
