Truth in Transformation: Dylan Mortimer

Saturday, Mar. 28, 2020    2–3:30pm

“We search for cures to so many things—physically, psychologically, and spiritually. This search compels me.”

"Taking inspiration from religious imagery, medical illustrations, and marquee signs, artist and cystic fibrosis advocate Dylan Mortimer creates works in response to his personal experiences. Mortimer's work explores the challenges of living with a life-threatening illness, and through his usage of sculpture, mixed media collage, and glitter, he transforms pain into something beautiful.

This collaboration was proposed by Dr. Robert Quinn, an assistant professor in the MSU Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. Dr. Quinn’s goal in this collaboration is to raise awareness of cystic fibrosis and share research related to the disease being conducted by him and fellow researchers.

This collaboration is part of the Community Open Call, an experimental platform that invites the community to become a central figure in the planning process for the arts and cultural programming offered at the MSU Broad Art Lab. This initiative is supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. Apply for the Community Open Call here.

Held at the Art Lab, located directly across the street from the museum at 565 E Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI 48823."
