A driver who was fatally injured in a two-car accident Saturday afternoon in East Lansing was traveling southbound on Coolidge Road, north of the Coleman Road intersection, when the collision occurred.

East Lansing Deputy Police Chief Steve Gonzalez confirmed Monday that Katie Jo Vera, 30, of Lansing died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver of the second vehicle was seriously injured and was transported to an area hospital. An update of that driver’s condition is not currently available, and no name has been provided for that person.

There were no passengers in either vehicle at the time of the accident.

“At this point, it’s too early to tell was the causation of the accident was,” Gonzalez said on Monday afternoon. “We are interviewing possible witnesses, and looking at some independent evidence through the investigation process, to actually point to the causation of the collision.”

About Saturday's collision, ELPD’s press release indicated, “Next of kin [for Vera] have been notified and ELPD’s thoughts go out to her family and friends.”
