Description: MSU Joanne and Bill Church West Circle Series- The ultimate Romantic composer, Schumann creatively named the two sides to his personality. Impetuos Florestan and sensitive Eusebius became key figures in Schumann’s imaginary “Davidsbünd,” a Band of David who stood up to the artistic Philistines of the day. The first half of the concert will feature MSU faculty artists Panayis Lyras, piano; Dmitri Berlinsky, violin; I-Fu Wang, violin; Yuri Gandelsman, viola; and Suren Bagratuni, cello, performing the Schumann Piano Quintet in E-flat Major, Op. 44. The second half of the concert will feature Schumann’s choral work Spanisches Liederspiel, Op. 74, performed by the University Chorale. While this piece was originally written for four soloists, it will feature solos, duets and chorus, directed by David Rayl, director of choral programs, and accompanied by Judy Kabodian, piano. - See more
