Facebook is about to change its computer algorithms to emphasize posts by friends and family over posts by news publishers. The consequence of this for ELi readers is that, if you look for our reports primarily via your Facebook account, you may soon be missing news and information you don’t want to miss.

Whether or not you are on Facebook, there’s an easy way to make sure you don’t miss anything we post in a given week: sign up for our free weekly news digest.

Each week, we use MailChimp to send specially-subscribed readers a single email that provides a summary and link to every article we have published that week. The message concludes with a helpful bulleted calendar of events for the coming week in East Lansing.

The weekly news digest is super popular among the people who subscribe. Our typical “open” rate is around 50%, which is way above the average for MailChimp mailings. If you’re a regular reader of ELi’s content, we think you will also find this an extremely useful service. (That’s why we spend the energy producing it every week!)

It’s free. It’s useful. There are no ads. We don’t give away your address, and we don’t abuse it. It’s a great public service that we bring to you as part of our non-profit local news mission.

You can see examples of the weekly mailer here and here.

And you can sign up for it by clicking here.

Suggest your neighbors do the same.
