Thursday, October 12, 2017 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm
Poetry meets Pavement
October 12, 2017 (7:00 PM – 8:30 PM)
East Lansing Public Library

Join Joyce Benvenuto in celebrating the time of the paving of Grand River in poetry and photographs. The poet will read from her work and share the story of the fabled picnic table found along the route. Colin Williams will share his original photographs of the paving of the road. The photography of Onn Mann Liang will be featured. His work has been preserved in the MSU archives.

The evening celebrates the 1920s, a busy historical period. Grand River Avenue, of olden days, ran from Detroit to Muskegon (before that—Grand Haven). The length of it was paved in 1925, one of the first roads to be paved across the state. Henry Ford was pleased.
