East Lansing Police officers responded to Reno's East, 1310 Abbot Road, at approximately 1:20 a.m. this morning after receiving a report that a man had fired several gunshots into the air.

Once they arrived at Reno’s, ELPD officers found that the suspect had left the area. Witnesses provided “a reliable, detailed description” of both the suspect and his vehicle he was driving. While officers were at Reno's East, ELPD received another report of shots fired, this time in the 1600 block of Greencrest Avenue (between Haslett Road and Saginaw Highway in East Lansing) and the suspect at the Greencrest shooting matched the description of Reno's suspect.

Subsequent investigation confirmed that the Greencrest Avenue suspect was the suspect from the Reno's East shooting. A loaded handgun and two fully loaded magazines were recovered from the scene on Greencrest Avenue.

The suspect is a 34-year-old East Lansing man. He is currently in custody at the East Lansing jail pending arraignment on multiple charges.

ELi has contacted ELPD and will update this story as more information becomes available.

Updates: According to ELPD Inmformation Officer Lt. Steve Gonzalez, the case has been assigned to the Detective Bureau, and the suspect should be charged later today and arraigned tomorrow. The suspect's name will be released at that time.

Gonzalez also said that the suspect is an East Lansing resident, that he was "highly intoxicated" at the time of the incidents and that there was no report of an argument or other dispute leading to the discharge of the handgun. He added that once the sun was up, ELPD officers went to the areas of both shootings to look for damage to structures of vehicles, and found none.
