Recently named by Big Ten Network as East Lansing’s “best game day restaurant,” Crunchy’s first opened in 1982 and has been a busy student hang-out ever since. They are widely known for their burgers, pizza and bucket-sized servings of beer.

“We’re the original craft beer bar in the area,” said employee Ellen Leonard. According to their website, the restaurant used to offer only twelve beers on tap and now sells 27. “The craft beer has become better and more selective over the years” says employee Shawn Campbell.

Crunchy’s also serves the “Crunchy Burger” which weighs in at a half-pound. “Our burgers come in fresh, never frozen and we still put them on special,” said Leonard. “We do a burger, fries and pop for $5.99 for lunch Monday through Friday.”

“We have better than average bar food,” said Leonard. This may be due to the fact that when it first opened, Crunchy’s was a traditional Italian restaurant before transforming into a more casual restaurant.

According to Campbell, Crunchy’s new carpet has gained quite a lot of attention in addition to their extension, which houses a game room featuring darts, arcade games and even golf.

When asked why she enjoys working at Crunchy’s, Leonard said “The atmosphere, the environment. I like working for a locally owned company.” Leonard also said that the owner is “great.”

Campbell agreed and said that the atmosphere is laid back and very easy going. She added, “You never know what’s going to happen on any given day.” In fact, according to Crunchy’s website, both the NCAA Hockey trophy and Stanley Cup have passed through Crunchy’s doors.

Crunchy’s is also known for their weekly entertainment options including trivia games, live music, and karaoke.
