East Lansing Info (Eli) has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to help cover their first six months operating costs. Using the IndieGoGo platform, the campaign was launched this morning and gives contributors a wide choice of ‘perks’, based on donation level. Perks include coffee mugs, t-shirts, house concerts by Eli board member Michael Lawrence’s band Jackalope, local artwork, and an invitation to a swank party at board president Alice Dreger’s home. Eli needs to raise $20,000 during the 45 day duration of the campaign.

Contributors can review the campaign materials and donate here.  A video—including messages from Eli’s President Alice Dreger, and ELi’s Managing Editor (me), and a dynamic description of how Eli works—is available on the campaign website. Visitors to the site will also find additional information about Eli, its goals, and its operations.

According to their website, “Indiegogo is a way for people all over the world to join forces to make ideas happen. Since 2008, millions of contributors have empowered hundreds of thousands of inventors, musicians, do-gooders, filmmakers – and many more – to bring their dreams to life.” ELi chose Indiegogo as its fundraising platform due to its history of success.
