According to a just-released statement from the East Lansing Police Department, a 22-year-old MSU student was shot and killed early this morning at an apartment complex on Abbot Road. (Although the ELPD press release indicates the shooting took place on Chandler Road, the apartment complex website lists "2501 Abbot Road" as its address.)

Officers responded at approximately 2:44 a.m. to a report of shots fired and people fighting at the 25 East apartment complex, located at 2501 Abbot Road. When they reached the scene, they found a victim with a gunshot wound who was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The victim, a 22-year-old male MSU student originally from Texas, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Although the Lansing State Journal originally reported that the victim was not an MSU student, ELPS Information Officer Chad Connelly has confirmed that the victim was enrolled at the university.

Connelly tells ELi that there is no immediate danger to the public, because the shooting stemmed from an interpersonal conflict.

He also says the shooting is under investigation, that leads are being followed, and that he’ll update ELi when information can be shared that will not jeopardize that investigation. Connelly cautions that it may take some time before he can tell us more.
