The annual book sale sponsored by Friends of the East Lansing Public Library (FOELPL) is a tradition many people don't want to miss. This year, because of major renovation at the library, the event will be held in a new location---Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road in East Lansing. Book sale hours have been expanded, from 9 am to 6 pm on Saturday, October 10, and from 1 to 4 pm on Sunday, October 11.

Hundreds of quality books, from diverse genres and in good condition, will be sold at $1.00 for hardbound, 50 cents for paperback, and 25 cents for children's books. On Sunday, people can purchase all the books they can stuff in a bag (which is provided) for just $2.00.

Other items to be sold include new or gently used purses, bags, luggage, and scarves. The event this year offers the one-time opportunity to purchase "garage sale" items from the library itself, which are being cleared out for the renovation there.

At the book sale, people can visit the children's corner and bag boutique, and circulate comfortably among tables loaded with books on many topics, including history, science, literature, as well as best sellers, cookbooks, children's books and much more. FOELPL members will be on hand to help people find the books, the bag, or one-of-a-kind library curio they just have to have.

FOELPL is an independent, non-profit organization. Its purpose is to support the East Lansing Public Library and encourage community members to use and take full advantage of this resource. FOELPL uses its funds exclusively for programs and materials at the library, which depends on this support. In its most recent fiscal year, FOELPL gave $45,368 to the library. This supported the summer reading program, Homework Help, Toddler Time, Teen Game Haven, Popcorn and a Movie, and many more programs. FOELPL funds also helped the library obtain books, subscriptions, shelving, and other supplies.

FOELPL raises funds primarily from the annual book sale and from sale of used books, t-shirts and other items available at the Friendshop in the library, open during library hours.

East Lansing residents and students look forward to the FOELPL sale every year, and the 2015 sale offers more than ever before. Again, the event will be at the Hannah Community Center, Saturday, October 10, from 9 am to 6 pm, and Sunday, October 11, from 1 to 4 pm. On Sunday, you can get a bag of books for two bucks.
