Band and Orchestra Car Wash Saturday
The East Lansing Band and Orchestra Parent Association will hold its annual car wash tomorrow, Saturday, September 27 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at MacDonald Middle School. Suggested donation is $10 per car wash but any level of donation is welcome. Band and Orchestra students will also be out in the community on Sunday, September 28 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. playing door- to-door for donations in East Lansing neighborhoods. (Read about the “Night Out” of caroling here.)
“It is extraordinary how many students have signed up for these events and how committed they are. Not only to band and orchestra, but to their fundraising,” said Wendy Kopitsch, volunteer co-coordinator of the car wash this year. The car wash will be staffed by band and orchestra students in grades nine through 12 and overseen by band and orchestra parents.
These fundraisers benefit middle school band and orchestra, as well as concert band, marching band, symphonic band and orchestra at the high school level. ELBOPA uses the funds raised for minor instrument repairs, music, scholarships for students who do not have the funds for entry fees for special events like solo and ensemble festivals, to bring in clinicians so students can further their learning on specific instruments or in specific areas of music, and for other expenses related to band and orchestra study.
The East Lansing Band and Orchestra programs have experienced steady growth over the last years under the direction of Patricia Kroth, David Larzelere and David Rosin.
Disclosure: Telaina Eriksen has a son who is a freshman percussionist at East Lansing High School.
