Andrew Wells, principal of Whitehills Elementary School, has been selected as principal of the East Lansing High School, according to an email sent to the High School staff Tuesday.
“I am excited to share with you that Andy Wells has accepted the offer to be East Lansing High School’s next principal!” wrote Acting Superintendent Dori Leyko. “This recommendation is pending board approval at Monday night’s board meeting.”
Leyko is at a conference the remainder of the week and was not available for comment.
Wells has spent his entire life within the East Lansing education community. He is a graduate of Hannah Middle School and East Lansing High School and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan State University.
Before taking over at Whitehills, Wells was principal at Glencairn Elementary when it was a 5/6 elementary school.
Previously, he was Athletic Director and Associate Principal at the high school. He has also served as basketball and track coach and District Community Liaison Officer.
Wells is married to Daphne and has three children.
In May, the current high school Principal Coby Fletcher accepted the position of superintendent of the Escanaba school district.
