The office of 8th District Congressman Mike Bishop will hold “mobile office hours” this Thursday, February 16, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the East Lansing Public Library. There’s been some confusion on social media about the type of event planned by Bishop’s office, as well as concerns that the reserved room in the Library might be inadequate.
According to Bishop's spokesperson Kelli Ford, “two of our district staffers will be present for the mobile office hours this Thursday, 10-11 a.m.” Bishop himself will not be present, and the staffers will speak with constituents on a first-come-first-serve basis. Asked if individual meetings would be timed to allow the largest possible number of meetings, Ford answered, “that will depend on crowd size,” adding that “staff will do their very best to see as many constituents as possible.”
Because of the large numbers planning to attend, I asked whether Bishop or his staff had considered expanding Thursday’s event or scheduling more East Lansing office hours in the near future. Ford replied that their “team has done two of these meetings [around the district] every month since Congressman Bishop started in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015, and…will continue to do so in the 115th Congress.”
The East Lansing Public Library is located at 950 Abbot Road. Parking is limited.
